THE ROAD WAS BUMPY AT ROAD AMERICA
BUT ACS EXPRESS RACING LOOKS TO MOSPORT
ELKHART LAKE, Wisc. – There have been better days for ACS Express Racing than what it experienced on Sunday, Aug. 10, at historic Road America.
Both Brandon Davis, third in the SCCA World Challenge GT points, and his father/teammate Mike Davis, had their race days ended prematurely with separate crashes in the SPEED GT at Road America presented by Remington Shaving & Grooming as part of the Generac 500.
Mike Davis went out on the 6th lap and finished 25th after starting 19th. Brandon, running a steady race with a potential solid fifth-place finish in the works, was an innocent victim of a competitor’s aggressive driving and saw his day end on the 14th lap of the 18-lap event. After qualifying fifth he finished 23rd. Brandon drives a jet black #10 Ford Mustang Cobra while Mike pilots a #11 vibrant neon yellow Ford Mustang Cobra.
“We were in the groove and running good laps, said Brandon. “While we didn’t quite have enough to challenge for the lead, we certainly could have held onto fifth place.
“But on the restart after the final caution, a couple of the Porsches jumped two to three spots without it being called, and as I was dealing with that, I was driven out by another driver between turns 5 and 6. Eventually I got smacked into the wall.
“Unfortunately, the car was damaged too bad to continue. There was a small fire, but it went out quickly and I’m fine. Now we really need some help to win the championship.”
Brandon managed to maintain his third-place standing in drivers points and now has 455. He barely lost any ground to second place as Andy Pilgram suffered a blown engine on lap 15 and finished 22nd. Pilgram has 490 points. With 503, Randy Probst is the points leader. He finished third at Road America in a race won by Tommy Archer.
Mike Davis is 11th with 282 points.
But as the case with any competitive team, ACS Express Racing does not sit still. On Monday, it went right back to work, testing with Brandon behind the wheel in hopes of earning better results in upcoming races. And the wait will not be long – the team competes in Mosport, outside of Toronto, Canada, on Aug. 21-24, then in Detroit (Aug. 29-31).
