BRANDON DAVIS STAYS IN CHAMPIONSHIP HUNT
WITH RUNNER-UP FINISH AT MID-OHIO
LEXINGTON, OHIO – Starting from the second position, Brandon Davis held his ground and gained ground on Sunday, July 20, at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
Davis finished second in the SPEED World Challenge GT race and closed on driver points leader Randy Probst to stay in hunt for the championship. The ACS Express Racing driver is still third with 435 points, behind only Probst (505) and Andy Pilgram (490). Five races remain in the season, including three in August.
ACS Express Racing teammate – and Brandon’s dad – Mike Davis finished 13th after running as high as sixth. Both cars carry sponsorship from Applied Computer Solutions and Sun Microsystems.
“It was a very positive weekend.” Brandon Davis said. “The big thing was we pretty much cut Randy’s points lead in half, so we’re still in the running for the championship.”
Probst finished sixth and Pilgram was third at Mid-Ohio. The race was won by Tommy Archer. It was slowed by three caution periods, but Brandon was unable to make a run for the lead. His best chance came on the second restart but he could not get in a position to make a pass.
“Every time I got close to Tommy, he was able to pull away,” Brandon said.
He was joined at the front of the pack by his dad, but Mike Davis was hit and spun by another driver. The car stalled and by the time he got it re-started, he was out of contention. He is currently 11th in the drivers standings with 282 points.
The SPEED World Challenge GT series goes on a brief break before going full speed ahead in August. Road America is Aug. 8-10, Mosport is Aug. 21-24 and Detroit is Aug. 29-31.
